About Cal Comply

Designed by Litigators Who Were Tired of Seeing Good Businesses Get Sued.

In 2021, a major shift in California employment law changed everything. The California Supreme Court’s ruling in Donohue v. AMN Services declared that meal and rest break violations should be treated like health and safety violations—and that employers would be presumed at fault unless they could prove otherwise.

For Alex Medina and Brandon McKelvey, two veteran employment litigators and co-founders of the boutique employment law firm Medina McKelvey LLP, this ruling didn’t just raise the stakes—it exposed a gaping hole in how businesses were supposed to comply with wage and hour laws.

There were rules. There were penalties. But there was no clear path to how to comply.

So they built one.

Cal Comply was created to help California employers treat wage and hour compliance like safety compliance—with training, testing, documentation, and defensibility built in. Just like OSHA requires forklift drivers to be trained, tested, and certified, Cal Comply helps ensure hourly workers and supervisors understand wage and hour law and have proof of it.

Because in California, good intentions aren't enough.
